Quote from Colin Bamford - "On page 28 of the School Magazine there is mention of the school production "The Taming Of The Shrew." Amazingly, at least to several members of the staff, I played the part of Grumio on the left of photo 1. I have no idea after all these years who played Petrucchio on the right of the photo. Photo 2 is of the entire cast, I am second from right. The fellow at far right next to me is Trevor Kempsall a close friend of mine back in the day. All the female roles in the 'Shrew were played by boys. Having girls present at the School was strictly taboo in Charlie's eyes back them. He probably feared what might have gone on backstage and he was probably right too!"

Quote from Alan Judd - "The ”Shrew“ was performed in the School Hall and produced by Bill Fletcher in 1958. Re. the picture of me as Gremio - not very butch! Also I think you will find that Petruchio was played by a boy called Dean Hilborne."
