Each year prizes were awarded for academic achievement. These prizes took the form of books which the pupil was allowed to choose up to the value of the prize. The book were then purchased and had a prize inscription signed by the headmaster affixed inside the book. These books were then presented to the pupil at the annual Speech Day, details of the prizes being listed in the Speech Day programme.

In the 1st and 2nd school year, each form had a prize winner and in addition there was an "endeavour" prize for each year.

From the 3rd to the 5th year prizes were by subject, each year still having an endeavour prize.

Members of the 6th Form were eligible for The Headmaster's Prize given to the boy that in the Headmaster's view had contributed most to the school, usually the School Captain.

There were also a range of other prizes funded by local industry and the Parent's and Friends Association.

Croydon Corporation administered a prize fund bequeathed by William Stanley, the founder of Stanley Technical School and the Stanley Halls in South Norwood, which was to be used for the purchase of books as prizes for students in Croydon.

From Chas Moody - "I bought the drawing book [below] with book tokens awarded as a 4th form subject prize. Pity there was a typo with my initials on the award label!"

More from Chas Moody - "Here are the books for forms 1H, 11H and 111H. I had a slight problem with the Form 111H prize as the book I chose to buy with the book token awarded was about motorcycles, which was not considered suitable acedemic material, so my name was written discreetly in pencil inside instead of being typed on a school prize label. The book is still 'prized' by me, as is the passion for motorcycles!"
